With summer finally allowing us to think again about getting out and having a blast of Mother Nature’s free treats, the thoughts always come around to being able to enjoy them for as long as possible before it is time to run indoors again. And towards that end any family with the even the tiniest of gardens should seriously consider putting a garden table and some chairs out in it.

Needles to say, the whole idea of putting out a garden table and chairs to go with it, will ensue the question of whether or not it is feasible to store the furniture indoors when it is not being used. This can be solved in two ways:

If the garden is small, thus requiring a few sticks of furniture here and there, a solution would be to pack them up and put them in storage when they are not being used. This will allow for the preservation of the furniture and the better usage of the garden itself.

But, if there is a lot of space and hence no problem, the most sensible thing to do would be to get permanent furniture. The furniture once installed or placed in the open space can just be ‘forgotten’ about. A typical garden table and chairs that are used in this manner would be made of teak.

Teak is an amazing wood that is usually used in garden furniture. This amazing wood is so tough, durable and resilient that it is actually used in ship building. The natural oils that are in teak allow the garden table, or whatever furniture to withstand rotting, warping and decay. It even acts like a natural pesticide that repels insects. All that is needed, once in a while, is that the owner takes a piece of cloth or sponge dunked in soapy water to wash off the dust or mildew that might occur on it. With this kind of minimal care the teak garden table and chairs will be enjoyed by the whole family for years to come.

Teak ages well. In fact, the only change that will be noticed on the wood after a while is that it changes colour to silver grey and that is about it. But, rather more for decorative purposes than anything else it would make for a more pleasant viewing if a splash of colour were added. And this can be done by adding cushions, pillows, rugs and covers that match or blend in with the colours that surround the furniture.
