Kerala is one of the most popular global tourist destination in India. Famous for its tropical rainforests, backwaters, beaches, hill stations and ayurvedic spas, the state is popularly known as God’s own country. Kerala has a 650km long coastline and has many beaches. The backwaters of the state are situated in central Travancore and are formed by intertwined lagoons and lakes and disconnected by small sand banks.
The most important city of the state is Kochi. It is also the second most important city of the western coast of India after Mumbai. It has lots of places worth seeing and are of historical importance. The Eranakulam city has high opportunity for shopping and it is abode of a number of temples, palaces and art galleries. One of the most famous tourist destinations in the city is Fort Kochi, which is a Portuguese-Dutch-Anglo influence island. The place has the famous Jewish synagogue, the Jew town, Dutch bungalows and numerous antique shops.
Next to Eranakulam is Idukki which has many hill stations like Thekkady, Munnar and Wagamon. Periyar Tiger Reserve is located in Thekkady. In Thekkady, you get an opportunity for a boat rides on the lake. In the guided walk through the forest, you get to see loads of different animals including Great Indian Hornbill, giant squirrel, black monkey and even elephants.
Munnar is a small town situated amidst tea plantations. In Munnar, you get to see the rare secies of Nilgiri Tahr in Eravikulam National Park. The Top station in Munnar provides an array of scenic beauties.
Get to Alappuzha and you get to experience the backwaters. The sun gliding through the canals, the green stretch of coconut trees, the paddy fields, the birds, the forests, the beautiful villages and the music produced by oar touching the water all makes for the romantic mood.
Kerala has many beautiful beaches including the famous Kovalam, Varkala, Cherayi and Kappad. The many important religious places of Kerala includes Sabarimala, Malayattoor, Guruvayoor, CHeraman Juma Masjid and Thrissur Puthan Palli. The people of Kerala are friendly and the food is awesome. The place is considered as one of the 10 paradises of the world and National Geographic Traveller Magazine elected Kerala as one of the 50 places one must visit before they kick the bucket.
