If you are ready for new carpet in your house, there are several options. You can tear out the old carpet and install new yourself; you can have a professional work on carpet installation; or you can take out the old carpet and install an entirely different type of flooring. If you decide to simply replace the old carpet with new carpet, you may want to understand basic carpet installation processes. Even if you want to have a professional install the new carpet, it is a good idea to know how it is done so you can ensure that things are being done correctly.

First, the carpet installation company will sent someone to your house to get an accurate measurement of the room. You can do a measurement of your own first, but it is a good idea to let the professionals take another measurement. That way, if anything is wrong with the measurement, the company you have hired will have to take accountability and fix the problem.

After the measurements have been prepared, it is a good idea to check for any squeaks the floors may have acquired over the years. Once the old carpet has been stripped, you can mark the places that squeak right on the subfloor with a black marker. Then, simply place a screw into the floor at those points to attach the subfloor to the joist more securely. When the new carpet is placed, the squeaks should be gone.

Once the carpet installation begins, the first thing the installers will do is nail down a tack strip. The tack strip will be nailed along the outside of the walls all the way around the room. Next, the installers will place the cushion into place. This cushion will help protect the carpet over years of wear and tear. It will also feel good on the feet and help the room hold warmth in instead of feeling cold.

Once the cushion is in place, the installers will roll the carpet out in the room. It will look too large and it won't quite fit, but that is okay because the next step is to fit the carpet to the room. The installers will use carpet strengtheners to stretch the carpet over the area and make sure it fits tightly. They will then cut the carpet to fit the room exactly and then hammer it into place.

The last step that most installers include in a basic carpet installation is to vacuum the carpet to ensure that there are no stray nails or bits of carpet left behind on the new flooring. Most carpet installation companies guarantee their work so if you notice any problems over the next few days or weeks, be sure to contact the company you hired.
